Venues in Review: St. Joachim Catholic Church
I've been dying to see inside this church since I spied it from 109 street a few years back. It beautiful. Classic read brick, beautiful detailing, stained glass, bell tower... what's not to love. It's tucked into the trees and apartment buildings near the legislature so I went years without even knowing it existed. For those wondering, St. Joachim Catholic Church is located at 9924 - 110 street in Edmonton.
Well, I finally got the chance to see the inside last fall and it did NOT disappoint. This church is beautiful! According to the priest (who was hilarious), the church was built by ship builders, who built the ceiling like they built boats - it is truly beautiful! On top of the beautiful wood ceiling, classic wood benches, and gorgeous stained glass, there is also a huge pipe organ along the back of the church which is also very pretty. AND at the end of the ceremony, you get to pull the bell chord and make the bell ring yourself! Why don't they make churches like this anymore anyways?
It's a church worth considering if you are looking for a great catholic church to get married at in central Edmonton. The parish itself is french, but the wedding we were at was in English.
